August is over, and I’m excited to write the first official blog post in the “New Arrivals” or “New In” category and give you a quick introduction to the new zines at the HZL!
I’ll start with the zine package from ZINES4QUEERS, which I ordered from the U.S. at the end of July. The twelve zines have been enriching the HZL’s collection since early August. ZINES4QUEERS is a queer Black zine duo, press, and distro led by founder Julie Elliston (aka Irie Ingénue) and co-founder Oumou Sylla. The zines explore themes of community and self-care, as well as anger and intersectional feminist perspectives.
Another shipment of zines has arrived from the U.S.: from Zine Machine. Kristen has combined zines with the cassette format. In addition to the 2026 winter, spring, and summer editions of Zine Machine, I ordered a few additional zines. The zines are as diverse as the zinesters behind them and cover a wide range of topics.
The last zine for August that arrived from across the Atlantic is „Goon“ by Shea. I found it in my mailbox through my „Zine-a-Month“ subscription, which I’ve had for years. It features flyers from DIY shows that now exist only digitally and are no longer printed.
I had already been in touch with Julia from the Munich Zine Library before the HZL was officially founded, and we did a zine swap. In addition to the first issue of the BI ALL MEANS zine, the “Antarctic” series and “The Queer Flowers of Ancient Greece” are now also available at the HZL. Yay!
